![]() Not terrible but not good… in a word: uninspired. The style was of the more tomato-y incarnation of Mexican rice, faintly reddish-orange with a slight sweetness. As we began to delve into our meal it became very clear that this was going to be a dinner of highs and lows, and on that note, I’ve since realized I will have to go into details over each individual dish in order to pay fair attention to the goods, the bads, and the whys. ![]() Now here is where this review gets complicated. The ensemble included sides of Mexican-style rice, frijoles a la charra, and a molcajete of pico de gallo and guacamole – while the main course consisted of the sizzling plate of beef and chicken fajitas, grilled onions and red bell peppers, a whole grilled jalapeño pepper, a garnish of fresh green onions and tomato wedges (an unusual choice, but no complaints) – and of course, a warmer of tortillas to enjoy with. Having quickly rifled through reviews and glimpsed positive feedback and reputation for their fajitas, we decided upon and ordered a combination beef and chicken platter for two and enjoyed some live music on the patio while we awaited our meal.Īfter a short time of noshing on tortilla chips and salsa while we people-watched, our plates arrived. Bearing in mind that nothing ventured is nothing gained, we stepped up to the hostess, who quickly and graciously offered us our choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and led us to a table. Granted, I’m not a fan of the unplanned visit, but I’m not one to nix the possibilities either. Menus were conveniently placed on tables outside the restaurant for the passers-by to peruse, and so we did, scoping out what looked to be a solid bet. In searching out a spot for dinner, we quickly discovered that the locally acclaimed haunt, Mi Tierra, was overrun and presenting an over 30-minute wait – so amid time constraints we improvised plans and instead paid a visit to its nearby neighbor and sister restaurant, La Margarita. ![]() What better chance for a first travel review! So, prior to our pilgrimage to The Alamo, and the festivities of the Ford Holiday River Parade & Lighting Festival, we meandered into San Antonio’s Market Square a flurry of live music, clamoring crowds, and the wafting aromas of delicious food. Over Thanksgiving weekend, my significant other and I road tripped to Central Texas to share the holiday with family, as well as to take in some of the local sights.
